3D-Printed Eyecup for Houdini 20

Published on 5 November 2025 at 16:36

Since its release in April, the Houdini 20 has been a huge success, receiving excellent reviews from observers using Newtonian, refractor, and SCT telescopes. It's hard to believe it's only been seven months!

There is one complaint about the eyepiece: the eyecup works very well but it sits too loosely around the body of the eyepiece and can fall off when handled. This issue took us by surprise - the prototypes we tested did not have the eyecup from the production run yet. It will definitely be improved in future production batches.

For the current Houdini 20, there are several solutions. One option is to apply a few drops of silicone glue (or a  similar product such as Aleene's Tacky Glue) to secure the base of the eyecup to the eyepiece body.

Today, we are presenting a new solution: a 3D-printed replacement eyecup made of TPU filament. Although this material is rubber-like and flexible, the eyecup cannot be rolled down completely. It is intended for people who observe without glasses and keep the eyecup raised. If you wear glasses, you probably use the original eyecup folded down and do not need a replacement.

We ship this Houdini 20 replacement eyecup for free worldwide in a simple, bubble-lined envelope. If you would like to receive one, please contact us via the contact page or email us at info@houdinitelescopes.com.
